I am originally from a small rural town in western NY. I moved to North Carolina after graduating from SUNY Fredonia and began my teaching career with the Davidson County School System in Lexington, NC. I taught special education and 7th grade Language Arts for four years at North Davidson Middle School while earning my Master's degree in Middle Grades Language Arts from Appalachian State University. In 2003, I moved to Raleigh and joined the Wake County Public School System teaching 8th grade Language Arts at Wakefield Middle School. For the next six years, I taught 6th and 8th grade Language Arts, AVID, Academy of Reading and Reading Enrichment electives at Holly Ridge Middle School. I completed coursework for my Academically Gifted K-12 certification in 2006. I was thrilled to join the inaugural faculty of Holly Grove Middle School in July 2010.
Married to a fellow bulldog, Mr. Jared Smith (8-4 Social Studies), I spend a majority of my free time with my two young children, Addison and Drew. I love to read, watch decorating shows on HGTV and enjoy Bulldog Athletic Events. Go DAWGS!
